This is our 3rd year now towing the old girl, and this year i have promised myself that i will attempt to erect the awning all by myself, every time we pitch up and i unwrap the darn thing with poles and cloth, no sooner have i started to scratch my head then people seem to come to my aid in droves, and before i realize what pole goes in what hole and attached to which end its up and ready for use.
Many a good evening has been spent talking to our new friends on the perfect way to erect an awning but alas, after numerous bottles of brain fogger my new found knowledge seems to elude me every time...!

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth!
One person erecting an awning is not easy....especially in this weather.
No doubt you will visit a quiet campsite sooner or later and have plenty of time to figure out how it all goes together....in the meantime make the most of the help.
I'm not sure this question is worth answering as the method used already seems far better than struggling on your own. A few weeks ago we briefly watched a family get into real trouble before my Linda said come on lets give them a hand and being over 6ft she is great at giving a hand pulling awnings through sticky rails!!
An hour later we were drinking a well earned beer with new friends.
P.S. if you really like the idea of struggling then use a pair of guy ropes as your helper to hold a corner or the middle leg up while you carry on.
I agree with Gary, reckon that's the best way to do it!
I've only had one I could do on my own, that was on a small 11 foot van. All the others I need at least one spare pair of hands to hold the middle upright pole while I tension the middle roof pole.

If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, just keep going till you go round the bend.
I should think trying to erect an awning on your own is akin to trying to grab hold of an eel or an octopus.
"Her indoors" and me have got it pretty much down to a fine art but even after years of putting the damn things up, there's always something for us to argue about.
An awning is great but it's a devil's invention, so as others have said previously, if willing help is at hand accept it with enthusiasm - you'll be sitting down to that first glass in double quick time.
