We'll be embarking on our trip down to the south of France soon, and need to sort out some European breakdown cover.
Can anyone recommend any breakdown cover, that covers both car and caravan? So, for example, perish the thought that if caravan gets a blow-out (or any other probs), they'll sort it?
We always have used Green Flag when we have been to France with ot tent and tailer and they have been very reasonable. When we had a puncture at Whitsun a garage was at the campsite within an hour and was very helpful
Having had some experience in the industry i know quite a bit that goes on.....
All i can say is expect delays either way - if your vehicle/caravan breaks down its inevitable no matter what these companies do to help that you will be delayed.
Also you have to expect to spend money on phone calls, these companies provide a free number but you have to be prepared to call from a landline and give up on your mobile.
Rental cars with towbars do not exist in the UK or abroad for insurance reasons so bear this in mind that whoever you take cover that you may not be able to get this kind of replacement car.
And always read the terms and conditions of your cover, quite often you will find yourselves being caught out because you didnt read the info before leaving on hols.... Hope this helps.
When I was in an accident a few years back in France Red Pennant were brilliant and sent out a car with a tow bar so I could carry on with the holiday. Trouble was I was driving an automatic and they sent out a manual so I spent the rest of the week stalling at roundabouts! I can't fault Red Pennant (Caravan Club) and will use them every time. Hope not to need to use them however.
thought it was very good considering the level of cover.
all I will say is compare the policy and decide on the level of cover againt the cost, think about what you really want out of the cover before you hand your money over.
I have recently looked into this as were going to France for the first time and have had a bad experience in cornwall before so this is important to me.
RAC provided the best level of cover for the best price....
I would advise you to check them out, of course it does depend on the age of your car as well as to how much they will cover you for etc.....
good luck!
------------- As one door closes another one opens.. sometimes you need to spend a little time in the room thats all..
Do whats right and right will become of you ;-) Nichola xx
Its worth noting that if you have RAC Arrival through the CCC and add on the euro cover they will accept vehicles of any age with full cover at no extra cost, This is only available through Arrival and not with any other RAC package. Hope this helps.
