Hi there!

I have read and digested all previous info and thought I had it sussed. We are looking for a new awning for our 12 ft Abi Monza 400D and measured with string all the way around the channel then to the floor (even though the channel goes back on itself at the bottom of either end (753 cm). Looking at this..

..are we wrong? Do we have to ignore the lowest section and take the awning vertically down to the ground? How does it break clear of the channel for this last bit? HELP! We need shade urgently for our baby!

Many thanks

Hi Ponjii

you should really follow the direction the channel goes and then down to the floor but it may on be an inch or so out. The awnings are made size steps of about 200/300mm increments so hopefully yours will fall in the middle. Dont buy new there are plenty of good quality second hand out there - shop around £100 - 150 should get you a minter.

I would follow the line of the front windows down to the floor ingnoring the bends inward. That's the way the awning is going to fit and the 'wing flaps' are designed to take care of the rest.

Measure it as described, but also ring one of the major awning manufacturers, who painstakingly compile big lists each year of awning sizes.

These lists have the caravan manufacturers' claimed awning size, the actual size (i.e. the exact one measured by an awning expert) and what size awning they'd recommend (i.e. 3-16).

Dorema can be contacted on 01977 555215 if you want to ask them. Just tell them that you're thinking of buying an awning and ask them for their advice.

If you want, I'll ring them tomorrow on your behalf (what year is it?), I've got most of their lists myself too. Similarly, if they know why you need it, I'm sure most retailers will make sure you're rushed an awning asap.

All the best,

John T.
