OH reckons it is just designed to pick up Freeview signals, not that it actually has a Freeview box built into it.

Have you tried it out Um Gum?

With "Freeveiw" it will depend on the area you are Caravaning in? as to the Arial's strength of TV signal reception, some areas have good reception some had weak to very bad? it would pay to put on your check list I'm sure there is a Web page of the various areas in the country for signal strengths for Digital TV reception and Freeveiw etc. no dout one of our more techy minded members will helpout with this.

We had to get an aerial for our tv in Chudleigh and OH has put a freeview box in the van and we are now getting all the channels!!  Yippee.

The local caravan shop wanted £45 for an aerial and post but we got the same thing in Trago for £17, bargain.

can I ask what type of aerial you have got for the caravan?

We have just got a freeview box and it works brill at home but we have really bought it to take away with us. Did you get an inside one? We have bought a wide gain digital one for the house but they are rather big to cart around in the caravan lol!

I was wonderring if the indoor digital aerials are good enough as I have always found the analogue indoor ones aren't much good

I also wondered if the ordinary outdoor analogue aerial we usually take with us would be suitable?  I do realise it will depend on the general strength in the area we are visiting but say it is a decent signal could an ordinary aerial pick it up ok?

It is a bog standard loft aerial/external aerial that we put on a pole so it is as high as the roof of the caravan.  We mount it on an 8ft length of steel plumbing pole!!  Believe me the signal at the site is awful without one, but now we get all the freeview channels no probs.

It looks like the sort of aerial you see on the top of houses if that helps!

Ali, your aerial sounds like the one we are currently using for the tv when we go away, only we haven't used the freeview yet (as only bought it two days ago!) We also stick ours up on a pole as high as it can go!! ( the aerial that is!  )

Seems best that we just try with the stuff we have for now then and if need be we could get a mains booster too (I think I have one of those somewhere tho' unless it went to Cardiff Uni with our son!)

I have found that this aerial is the best for freeview.

Bought initally for the caravan, it is better on its own than the house one is with a booster.
