Hi all.

I need to replace the jockey wheel on my caravan. It originally had a solid wheel. What are the pros and cons of a solid or pnuematic wheel.

We changed to a pnuematic jockey wheel as we found that our solid one always sank in soft ground very easily and was difficult to 'handball' the caravan around, whereas pnuematic ones don't seem to sink as much.

We bought an additional pneumatic one in the belief that it was necessary to work well with our motor mover.

However, in practice we find the solid one better.  The pneumatic one keeps going soft in storage and it doesn't stow so neatly during towing - higher risk of it grounding and also rubbing against and marking the white plastic 'A' frame covers.

We do juggle the two of them and we also tow with the jockey wheel removed quite often.  On the whole, we find the solid one gets more use and we would only take the pneumatic one if we thought we were using a very soft grass pitch.

I find the pneumatic tyre is too big with the latest Alko "easy to manoeuvre chassis "and the inside the A-frame jockey wheel.

It reduces the ground clearance quite a bit which is a shame because I prefer it when moving the van with  the mover. 

I broke my solid wheel and thought hey ho ill get a pnematic one , the ground clearance was way too low , so i broke that too in a differnet way , now im back with a solid

If it hasn't marked the A-frame cover it must be fitted on the outside.

  Hi folk's,  We fitted a pneumatic jockey wheel when we had our m/mover fitted, great until the jockey wheel got punctured, then the m/mover was about as much use to us as a ball of chalk, so we invested in a wide, solid one so now we get the best of both world's.

Bought a almost new AL-KO pneumatic jockey wheel assy off ebay at a good price and have never had a problem, no leaks and no marks it is on the outside, works well with the motor mover, a friend of mine brought a cheap pneumatic wheel and its forever going down!!!
