Currently camp with our trusted old tent but been thinking for a while about moving up to a caravan, and will probably look to buy a new rather than used caravan. I am located in Leicestershire but don't mind a drive of a couple of hours for a good deal.

My budget is upto £14k and I want a 4 berth with a fixed end bedroom. Can anyone out there recommend a good dealer and advise what sort of discount I should be able to secure on a new caravan for a cash purchase.

Thanks,

Liam.

Find the model you want, then ring round all the dealers and play them off against each other, but bear in mind you may have to use the supplying dealer for any problems.

Liam
If you can go to one of the shows. I think they should be starting again soon for next years models. We got the best deal for selling our van and buying a new one last year at G-Mex. If you play one manufacturer off against the other (I like it but the wife walks away!) you can get incredible bargains.
Cheers
Steve

Steve, Shooie,

Thanks for advise. I guess its just like buying a car. I was just wondering if there was a "rule of thumb" guide to discounts ie 10% 15% ??

Never been too keen on hagling over price but OH is much better at it than me, and she will make the final choice on model anyway.

Now that we are well into the summer will the dealers start to discount this years models?

Cheers,

Liam.

If you go to a show knowing what you want and have no part ex you can really play one dealer against the other. I did this at the last show and got a much  better deal than offered by the same dealers before the show. I can only assume the manufacturers chip in in some way.  I simply told the dealers I was buying a specific van that day and had no part ex and they were very very keen to get the price down. They kept saying " come back to me before you buy if you get a better price " thus inviting a sort of reverse auction.

Before the show they were knocking off the delivery charge  but this was at least doubled at the show.

Yes, decide on the van you want, then phone around several dealers and play one off the other.  It might not be the nicest way to do business, but if they offered you their best price in the first place you wouldn't have to do it.

I've just ordered a new car, and my local dealer latterly raised his trade-in price by nearly £1500 to get my business, simply because I'd contacted other dealers and was getting offered better deals than my local guy.

And yes, next year's models will be appearing soon, so good discounts should be available on this year's vans.

I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure!
