Hi all

I have today purchased an Elddis Oddyssey 505 2001 (main consideration with having two kids of 3 & 8 was the layout favouring an additional bed/lounge area at back) and need as much advice as possible in all areas, such as

• Insurance
• Basic equipment needed
• Towing advice (we have a 4x4 BMW X3)
• Opinions on the model we have selected
• Security
• Storage (we cannot keep it at home)
• Any other general tips

I have an old MG and know how valuable these sites are and thank you all for the tips I have already picked up from scouring your posts before buying.

Hi Tony. I bought my first caravan on Saturday, so I am as new to all this as you!!

Best insurance deal I could find was thru the caravan club - members only, but you get so many offers etc that for £34 it's a snip

Storage - I got a list of sites from my dealer. It turns out they don't advertise much, as it attracts unwanted attention. There is an organisation called CASSOA that regulates registered sites. Prices range from as little as £150 pa to £500 with cameras, dogs, barbed wire, guns and minefields from what I have read!

No idea about the model. I got a Swift Charisma 590 as I have four kids

Towing advice - no idea. I have a total of 8 miles under my belt. My intentiuon is to take things wide and slowly!

Security. I got a wheel clamp and a hitchlock.Some insurance companies and storage facilities demand it.

General tip - I will tell you next week. We are off to North Wales on Friday for our first adventure. Have fun.
