You get most free channels without a card. But NOT channel 4 or five for those you will need the card from sky and yes its £20 sometimes a lttle cheaper on ebay but not worth the hassel in my view. I bought a 4 way LNB and have freesat  in every bedroom because we can't get normal Freeview. In the van we normally take the living room sky box and card to get all channels.

Standard sky installed dish at home with the change of LNB and standard dish with tripod bought of ebay with the van...yes it came with cabling. I have fitted an external ariel socket in the batt box along side the mains input. This has both a sat socket and a RF tv socket for when the site provides TV signal. I then changed the internal TV socket for a double with RF and sat so its all easy to connect up for any type of input.

Why pay for sat TV if you want Freeview?

Freeview is free!

You can either use a Freeview tuner (£50) or buy a TV with its own built in Freeview tuner. You then feed this with a signal from a normal UHF tv aerial (£6).

Last year we bought a Sony Bravia 40" LCD set with a hard drive recorder/DVD writer and sound system. We retained sat TV which we had subscribed to for years until we discovered that picture quality and sound was far better on Freeview.

Now we can record progs on hard drive or DVD to watch later in HD if necessary whilst watching other progs with no subscription.

We get ch 4 and 5 and all the BBC and about 80 others plus radio.

I can't get freeview in our area! nor in most of the site we visit in Norfolk.

That way I use FREESAT  freeview via sky sat.

Hi we tried Freeview and it ended up a waste of money as it didn't work in many areas, we gave the box away and changed to Sky for basic programmes and better reception...................we have no regrets.

If you ring Sky to ask for the £20 card tell them it is for your static caravan or chalet, as they don't like touring caravans having them, something to do with if you take your caravan out of the country.

As long as you are paying the subscription I can't see any problem as you can't use the card in another box at home if you have the card with you.  Suppose it keeps them happy when you lie.

Why not just take the box out of your lounge when you are away. You are paying for it anyway, so you may as well enjoy the subscription channels that you have at home. That's what I do anyway.

Freeview is not available in a lot of areas yet, thats its downfall, if you go to www.freeview.co.uk and put in your postcode, or the postcode of the site your going to, you will then know if its available, i'm going for the satallite option with ours, www.maplin.co.uk  do the complete portable kit, everything your need, yes reciever included, for £79.99 i think also lidl had a simular kits a month or so ago, this is chaper than some places are selling just the dish and LNB for.

As for watching tv when away, yes i agree its nice to be away from it, but if its pooring with rain etc, it keeps the kids quiet.
