Hi All. Just wanted to know whether any of you have ever taken such a young baby away in the caravan. If so any useful tips that you could pass on. My main concern is on a night time and ventilation etc. and the baby becoming too warm.
I have never taken a young baby in a caravan, but did take my son in a tent when he was little (he is now 31). However have come up against lots of family with very little babies and it seems ok. Just a note, keep the flie screens down at all times. A few years ago, on a site in Suffolk, we had a swarm of green mossies one night, very nasty beasties. The van next door had not put a screen over a roof vent and the mossies headed for the light and a fresh juicy baby. Poor little mite was ok in the end but did have to spend a night in hospital.

I find that babies fit nicely into the storage box at the front of the caravan, if you wedge them in with your water carrier and a couple of bungee straps just to be on the safe side then all should be well, also well ventilated there too!!!!!

I never had a problem with the baby getting too warm at night in a van, i found it more they got too cold. We always used a baby sleeping bag and put the baby in the large double with us at the front. I think as long as there is no danger of the baby getting under your covers or squashed by you this will be fine. (no getting drunk etc.)
I always worried because my babies have all been in bed with me every night but they are all fine and number 4 is still there at 18 months old!
Are you breastfeeding? If so it is so easy in a caravan no bottles, sterilising or anything.

Great idea..........Just to make sure they dont get dirty they could be put into a plastic bag too
Will any of us go to Heaven???????

Every day is a gift..That's why it's called the present.
took our eldest away in a friends caravan at 6 weeks. she was fine sleeping in the top of her pram with one sheet and a babygro on. bottle sterilising was the biggest challenge but apart from that she was absolutely fine - enjoy it while you can, a crawling toddler is a different kettle of fish in a van - we tried that and gave up until they were older!!
Little Scamp's first camping trip was at 4 weeks old - we had a folding camper, and it was mid-May and we had no problems. I was breast-feeding, so that was easy, but once I needed to sterilise things I used sterilising bags - they have sterilising tablets already in and you just fill them with cold water and hang the up. I used to judge how much/little bedding Little Scamp would need based on what we needed, plus 2 layers (vest and baby-grow) - she's now 14 and loves camping, so I must have done something right!!
Hi, the main problem with taking the baby is that,
1. They wont help with the awning
2. They wont fetch the water
3. They defo. wont empty the toilet 'cause they haven't used it'
But apart from that my son went on his first outing at 3 weeks, and slept in his car seat, Then moved into a travel cot and has recently moved into his 'annex' on the awning, You'll be fine you have heat and a roof over you, And you'll soon get into a routine, go and have fun ..
------------- Doing as little as possible for as much as possible...
When we were in Scotland in June, a very smart couple used to pull on the site in a car and just sit there looking around. I am now wondering if they were the social services and were actually looking for cheeky boots.
Can't see why, I think it is a perfectly reasonable idea.
We've just come back from a 10 day holiday with our 3 week old and it was great. It helped that my wife was breastfeeding but found that being in a confined space away from all other distractions (family) we we're able to get her in to a great sleep routine and really bond with her. We had a moses basket but love the look of that mothercare product and would probably got that if we had known about it. Go for it but have a knowledge of local amenities GP/Hospital of the area that you visit.
