so, what i thought would be a five minute job looks like its going to turn into the usual nigtmare ..... went to replace a rear light cluster today, the light i got from the shop today is the correct light but when i removed the old one the holes that were left are far too big (approx 10mm dia) for the new screws supplied with the light. what i need is some kind of expanding screw fitting or something to plug the hole with. by the way, they fit into the back of the van and its fibreglass so thats only a couple of mm thick. cant get up the back in any way to fit a nut or anything....anyone got any good ideas? also need to try and find out corect tyre pressures for  the van too.cant get max weight of van but unladen is 1900cwt apparentlyits 175 x 13 tyres too, twin axle if anyone has any ideas

will do michael. be later on this week. got to get it fixed before friday as heading for devon for a week. dont suppose you would know any body who i could contact about tyre pressures and weights do you? as the manufacturers went bust way back in 96 and i dont have a manual i am really struggling.... been told it should weigh 1900cwt whatever that means  and i take it thats the unladen weight.

19cwt (hudredweight) = approx 960 kgs give or take a few grammes. In technical terms that is 'just under a ton'

1900cwt is considerably heavier at 'just under 100 tons...'

With regard to the lights - would it be possible to make new holes in a different place on the base plate of the lights and then drill corresponding holes in the caravan?

With regard to the lights - would it be possible to make new holes in a different place on the base plate of the lights and then drill corresponding holes in the caravan?

the idea's good but as a rule the screw holes are moulded into the light unit.unlike our last van the previous owner decided in his wisdom to glue the lights in and it cost me £64 for two new ones.had to remove the old ones bit by bit to avoid cracking the main panel.[:o)]

glueing them in would not be an option as they have to come out if a bulb blows. boring new holes in lights wont work either as there is only a set place that the screws can go into the van. its only thin plastic and the original holes are or seem to be reinforced to a degree so the only way will be to use plugs like what michael has suggested....

you need to glue in the fittings complete with screw before trying to fit the lights.when dry remove screws and fit lights,take care not to get any glue on the screws.look for any expansion when screwing up this could cause cracking.thats why you cannot use expansion plugs. suggest you try screws full in before fitting lights that way you can see any cracking.[:o)]

Had this problem on my first van I used some isopon P60 with the fibre glass strands already mixed in and filled the holes with this then re-drilled once it was set.

I do the towing so it must be my turn to wash the van and clean the inside!!!
