please bare in mind freeview digital TV is not at max power yet

I have watched a few programmes explaining the ins and outs, once standard TV is phased out in next couple of years the digital tv transmitters will be boosted to enable better reception/wider coverage

so its still early days for terrestrial digital tv

And just when it is at max power,  "High Def " will be the new kid on the block.

Hi

We have freeview in the van, we have been to many sites and 90% of the time it works fine.

However the status airel is rubbish.  We bought a powered internal one from tesco  was about £25 and it plugs into the mains and boosts the signal (it has to be freeview compatible though as ours was)   its internal and the picture is fantastic.

While the website claims that 95% of the country has freeview coverage, I suspect that a more accurate claim is that 95% of the population has coverage. Being as campsites tend to be out of the cities, my experience is that with any kind of aeriel the chances of freeview coverage are at best 50/50. Despite the more complicated set up, I would favour a satellite over freeview. Maplin have one for £79. I was unfortunate enough to buy mine when they put their prices up to £100. They came back down 2 weeks later :-(

we bought a usb freeview for work (work in IT) when the world cup was on, we found reception ok but had to move antennae about for certain channels, channel 5 is a no go at all (who cares lol)

I think we had about 25 channels inc radio... not bad for 30 quid

I've got one of the plug-in USB 'dongles' that give digital TV on my laptop.  Mixed results using a powered internal aerial, depends on area.  It can be surprising at tmes -  in Berwick last month we couldn't get any digital UK TV stations at all, but did get 6 Danish digital channels!
