hi lawrie09
we have owned a swift rapide 440 gxl since last year. its our first van and we love it.theres only me and the oh but we taken the neice and nephew with us for a weekend and found it a bit tight,2nd time put the awning up and it made it a lot easier.
if you are considering buying one check carefully for damp,in the overhead lockers and along the seams between wall and ceiling.our van is also 1994 and you will find that things are starting to wear out, after last winter we had to replace all the window seals and reseal the awning rails.
hope this helps and if you need anymore info give me a shout
regards gaillio

Deffinatley check for damp at the front of the van i did not and had to replace the front end not happy

also check the spec of the van a gxl like gailio's will have all the toys but mine was a basic rapide(no hot water no built in toilet)

but they are a really good van and nice and easy to tow

we loved our rapide and had it for 12 years (1992 from new)but after spending a lot of money for damp repairs we got rid of it, sold it to our nephew after having it serviced and again repaired for damp. he part exchanged it and was told that it was again full of damp so they reduced the price by a thousand pounds. i think they gave him about £1500 for it.

take care swift are lovely vans when new but they are known for their damp.

my sister and brother both had swifts different models but they all suffered damp even before our rapide.

Hi,

We have a 470GLX brought it  2 years ago from a chap who had had it from new, I have the handbook and all reciepts for everything he has had done to it. The hand book covers all of the 1994 swifts so if you buy it I could tell you all you need to know. We love our van and only had a small damp problem at the back in the bathroom which cost £150 to fix. Yes it looks a bit dated now inside but I would not swap her. Good luck and if you want to see her look in my gallery and if I can help further weights etc just let me know.

Happy caravanning!!!!
