I have a 'Y' piece connector channeling my washbasin and shower waste outlets into one aquaroll. The other week whilst away we had waste from the washbasin coming back up and filling the shower tray. Any ideas on how to prevent this and also how to make the waste go down a lot quicker?
Due to the low proximity of the waste outlets, I have to put the aquaroll on it's side, but sometimes it is still higher than the outlet. The hoses from the two outlets are only about 12" from the 'Y' connector. Would extending these lengths overcome the problem? The best way would be to put both hoses individually into the aquaroll, but the neck is too narrow to do this.
Lots of people use aquarolls for waste water as well as fresh. (clearly marked of course) I myself like the wastemaster as it also holds the cassette loo as you trundle ocross the field lol
The Aquaroll is really not designed for waste water as it is too high, if you get the right container the problem should be solved. If you were ever on a sloping pitch where the outlet end was low it would be impossible to use an Aquaroll. Do you use an Aquaroll for fresh water too? Best plan is to sell the second Aquaroll and buy a Wastemaster or similar. Plenty of secondhand ones around.
Fit a short piece of pipe to each outlet and join them with a Y piece and run a single pipe into the Wastemaster. You could also make up a solid outlet using household plumbing bits, I think David Klyne and a few others have posted pictures of how they did this.
Yes I use Aquarolls for both waste and clean water, mainly because I was given the second Aquaroll which was clearly marked 'waste water only'. Waste not want not I say (pardon the pun).
I do have a separate 'flat' waste container for the kitchen sink, which only serves one outlet, so I could swop it with the bathroom Aquaroll I suppose. Any water left in the pipe would not matter so much in the kitchen area.
It would seem that the problem I am having is down to the waste Aquaroll being higher than the shower outlet. Thanks for all your advice anyway. It hadn't crossed my mind to swop the two waste tanks for each other - funny how the solution is staring you in the face sometimes and you just can't think of it!
The solid outlet pipe arrangement interests me - where do I find David Klyne's and other's postings on this?
we had this on the old caravan it had a side outlet too,and the causes after many go's at it was.... the pipe was too long on the outside.make sure it only just goes into the top of the waste barrel.if its in the water it takes time to go down and flushes back.the caravan must be level if it slopes away from the waste outlet it will come back or not leave the pipe.i see its a 1991 van,the waste may need cleaning out due to fats blocking the pipe.use a waste unblocker, block off the waste pipe outside but not completely the pressure could push the pipes off fill with warm water and waste unblocker for a few minutes then release.i use fenwicks FENDOX ... www.fenwicks.info

------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
Thanks Michael - in fact the pipe that goes into the waste tank is very long and it is submerged in the waste water in the aquaroll all the time, so hopefully this will be the cause. The aquaroll is always laid on it's side (on a home made stand I have devised to stop it rolling) with the filler neck uppermost, and nine times out of ten is lower than the outlet on the van, so I doubt it is a level problem. However, another thing is that the waste in the wash hand basin always takes a long time to go down, so I think your points have laid it on the nail, so to speak, thanks!
Our shower outlet is seperate from either of the other two wastes. The shower tray is bound to fill up if there is any uphill obstruction as it is lower than the other two. Get rid of the Y junction and have two exits. Dead easy solution! We always slightly lift the front of our van so that the water runs downhill. Never have a problem
The filler neck in the Aquaroll is too small to take two hoses. I will now use a flat waste tank (which I used for my kitchen waste) which has a wide filler neck and will take both the shower and the washbasin seperately. I will then use the waste Aquaroll for the kitchen.
I probably didn't make things very clear, sorry. All three outlets (kitchen, shower, washbasin) are separate from each other, but the shower and washbasin outlets are side by side, hence the Y piece arrangement.
Thanks for all your suggestions, I hope the problem has now been solved. Will only know next time we use the van.
I was having a look under my van the other day and I noticed that the drains from the kitchen sink and toilet sink joined together for one outlet and the other outlet is for the shower tray. I thought one outlet serviced each side of the van.
