Hi ya all - we bought our 1st van privately  (swift classic aloutte 1998) 3 weeks ago and love it!! It has sliding door at one end to shut off a bedroom and the problem is that some how i (my small son actually!) has managed to break the little plastic thingy that holds the doors onto the rail at the top (we didn't think to keep the actuall part). The problem is that we can't seem to get one from anywhere and our local caravan shop is really unhelpful in trying to identify what it is we need so that we can buy and fit it privately. My hubby is just ok at D I Y and the shop wants us to bring the van in so they can look and charge us £40 an hour to try to repair and say it will take approx  2 hours to do + spare part.

Does anyone know what it is i'm after + where i could get one from - would be really grateful for any help at all - many thanks

Tracey xx

Hi, the same thing happened to our sliding door,(different caravan though I think it may be possibly made by Swift group??) must be a design fault.

My hubby bought some little plastic tags  - which do look a bit like tombstones actually! - and we saw them for sale in about 3 caravan accessory shops before we got round to buying them so they must be readily available. hubby hasn't fixed it yet though but he says it shouldn't be a difficult job......

Our one fell off on our way home last year coz our tin tent was new and our check list for setting off had slightly changed from our routine that we'd had for years with our last one! So....we'd both forgotten to make sure that the sliding bedroom doors were fastened securely before setting off until we reached Dobwalls and hubby spotted the doors across in his rear view mirror. I clambered in when we pulled over in a bus stop and fastened them but the rubbery stop thingy was sitting on the carpet.

Ours was replaced when it went in to the workshop at the dealers for some other minor things to be sorted under the makers warranty but I would imagine that they are pretty easily available from any dealership.

Course, we hadn't noticed where it had come from exactly to be honest and assumed it was from the bottom runner but when we got it back from the workshop...it was up the top S'pose it's one of those things you never notice until it falls off

OK, so I too have a problem where the tombstones are either broken or have simply come off of the door(s) - I have 2 sliding doors that share a common track so they are linked to it via tomstones in alternate order (i.e. left slider door 1, left slider door 2, right slider door 1, right slider door 2).

I have the parts but the I have 2 problems:

a) How do I get the sliders into the track.  Do they just pop in? Do I need to be able to access the track from one (open) end?

b) I cannot easily get to the top of the doors to attach the tombstones with screws as the track is flanked on both sides with a trim that extends about 5cm down from the ceiling.  To remove this trim is probably not an option.  Depending on the answer to (a) above, perhaps I just need to get the doors off; attach the tombstones and then pop in the tombstones with doors attached.

Any guidance from other members who have done this would be very gratefully appreciated.

Cheers,

Dave

Hi

We also have broken ours so will source the part, Hoping for a reply to how they fit back on the rails too.

I guess it's a common problem looking at how many of us there are already...

Thanks in advance

Vikki

your doors will slide off the end after you have removed the rubber stops and their brackets.attach new tombstones, and then refit doors into track.make sure you fit doors in correct order as one usually pulls second one across to close it fully...

Thank you all for your replies have already got the tombstones but cannot get doors out to fit them as bpoolmouse said as we can not get to the rubber stop or brackets to get them off, who had the caravan before us did something to the track at the bottom and cant remove doors.
