Hi guys n gals.

Have just seen this on our local Freecycle site - not sure if it's any good or roadworthy but thought someone may want it for a project/spare parts etc. If anyone is interested if you give me a shout and i'll let you have the email address (didn't want to go putting someone else's email on here !)

Hi All

My inlaws have an old (1970 ish?) 5 berth touring caravan to dispose of. I think its a CI Muskateer.

Its touring days are long over but its still useable as emergency accommodation for anyone in need of a place to sleep during building works etc - you'd need to run an extension cable out to it to run a heater of some kind - but what do you want for free!

Alternatively it could be used as a field store for tack etc in a paddock, a 'shed' on a small holding, a 'tea hut' on a building site, somewhere to sleep in a lambing shed - loads of possibilities!

Its basically free to anyone who can tow it away - target date for removal would be in the next few weeks. You'd need a sizeable vehicle to tow it out - it comes from the days when they made caravans to last and weight didn't seem to be an issue!

Its currently on blocks with the wheels off and we will pull them out from under the van at the weekend to see what they are like, get them on the van and see if the wheel bearings and brakes are free.

The outside is fairly grimy but nothing that a scrub down with hot soapy water (with a bit of bleach in wouldn't fix. The interior is remarkably dry for a 30+ year old caravan an d if I remember correctly it has some pretty lurid orange patterned coverings on all the seats etc.

There are no guarantees whatsoever that any of the interior fittings work - lights, cooker etc and any that do should be viewed as a bonus!

There are no guarantees that it is roadworthy and you would need to satisfy yourself that you and your vehicle are competent and capapble to tow it away yada yada yada.

Anyone interested?

I will be away from my computer from 4pm Thursday until sometime saturday afternoon.

In the unlikely event of there being several freecyclers interested I would favour the person who has some idea of moving old caravans and has their own vehicle to shift it with and is not relying on a friend of their brothers wifes father who has an old ford escort with a tow bar (just to remind you, you will need to remove it, it cannot be delivered).

Just on the off chance that there is someone reading who has a flat bed lorry (with an 18 foot bed) - there is good enough access to the side of the caravan to stick a couple of slings under it and lift it onto the back of the lorry

regards

Dudley

PS did I mention that YOU WILL HAVE TO REMOVE THE CARAVAN - WE DONT HAVE A SUITABLE TOW VEHICLE

We gave our caravan away using freecycle a few weeks ago it was road worthy and everything worked but you should have seen people tut tutting round it prior to taking it away - we still can't work out what they thought they would be getting for nothing !!

Hi Pete

It's not my van unfortunately - someone else is getting rid of it on Freecycle. I thought I would post on here in case someone wanted it.

Julie - it amazes me what some people think they'll be getting for nothing. Having said that, mind you, we've picked up a dishwasher (perfect working order), a new kitchen (well, doors and drawer fronts) and a high sleeper for my daughter all from the site. It's almost as addictive as UKCS ! lol
