Hi just got back from our first adventure, alls well managed to fix the water issue, brought a new housing pump and micro switch and its fine now.

Next question.?!!!

 

ALKO hitch groan.

Periodically whilst moving the van id get some quite loud creaks and groans from the hitch. It was a new ball (alko) that i fitted to the existing tow bar, I degreased the ball before every journey using meths, but got this quite loud squeak/creak groan, seemed worse at low speed cornering? Is this normal or is there soemthing amiss?

I ahd this not so long ago!!
we cleaned the ball with white spirits and it was making a really embarrasing noise really loud like you explained!!
we unhitched (like you do on site)
the tow ball got a bit of rain on it when we were on site, and it didnt do it again when we set off to go home!!

I just put it down to the cleanliness of the towball!!

Its not done it since!

Ours creaks (blade type) until its soaked in water for a few secs before use. It obviously lubricates the friction pads so makes it a little more ineffective but the noise otherwise...arrgghhhh

We put one on our last caravan and within half a mile I thought the caravan was breaking in half! it was so loud but it did eventually shut up after a few trips. We have picked up another caravan today and we had to put one on to tow it home 250 miles and not heard a peep out of it so fingers crossed we have a quiet one this time

Mine creaks turning slowly round corners.... doesn't bother me cos I know it's working

the time to worry is when it doesnt creak and groan!!! at best it means the stabiliser isnt working, at the very worst your van aint there!!!!!!

the best way to cure this is to turn your radio up a bit

This is a very reassuring post for a new caravanner!

I too have a blade stabiliser and we had no idea where all the creaking is coming from.

Will turn "Blood on the Tracks" up full when journeying up north today!

hi the noise is coming from the pads in the stabiliser,they need cleaning or replacing.
