am i just unlucky or are these aerials actually garbage ??

didnt rate the one on the last caravan we had and this one seems worse still.why do manufacturers go to all the trouble of having a nice overhead locker with a turntable and powerpoint for your telly then provide you with probably the worst aerial ever made ?

does anyone else have this problem or is it just us ?

anyone recommend a `proper` aerial that wont cost too much ???

Our status aerial is fine.

Some people have said that theirs haven't been connected properly by the caravan manufacturers.  It might be worth checking connections.

Most problems with these arerial's are that they are not connected properly.  we think these are great very rareley have any problems usually if it will not work  the whole site usually need a booster cable.  Check it is fitted correctly manufactures just fit them they never check that they work often they dont even connect all the bits or they connect them the wrong way round.

we have one of those works well in most situations, but remember if you have lots of trees around your pitch it will effect reception regardless of what you use

Hi
Bought a 7inch portable TV which would not tune in on the status (or any other aerial). So bought an external aerial and tuned in a 15inch portable TV at home. Lugged the aerial to Tenby and set up on the jockey wheel and got a reasonable reception. However, decided to try it on the status, wow, exceptional picture. Not sure if we were just lucky. Also, not sure how it would be in a poor reception areas. Possibly best to carry the external aerial just in case.

Stay safe

Kevin

We have had our new caravan since May 2005 (fitted with a status).  In that time we have visited 11 different sites (12 if you include our driveway) and the status has only performed to an acceptable level on 2 of those sites.

We removed ours last week actually because it was not working to any sort of acceptable standard.  Bought an aerial at Trago and some curtain pole and made our own external one for less than half the price the local dealers wanted!!  works a treat even in the poor reception area where we stay with full signal on the digi box.

We've had our new van since Feb 2006.  It has a German Teleco amplified "flying saucer" aerial, similar to the Status.  We've visited 6 sites this year so far, at - Capel Curig, Dolgellau (twice), Abington (near J13, M74), Cannich (turn left at Drumnadrochit), Aviemore and Resipole Farm on Loch Sunart.

At Resipole Farm, we manage to tune in two channels, but reception was pretty poor.  We couldn't get even a single one at any of the other locations.

The Teleco and Status aerials are only of any use at all in strong signal areas.  It's just one of those awkward facts of life that most of the places we want to go on holiday are well away from civilisation and consequently never in a strong signal area.

If you want to watch TV in (semi) wilderness places then satellite is the only way to go.  It works just as well as at home, providing that you've a clear view of the south-east sky from your pitch.

Yep, the Status flying saucer is garbage,

I bought a powered indoor one from tesco that you plug in the mains, and its been great, even runs the freeview box in most places.

Does anyone know where I can get the information to check if our STATUS has been fitted correctly. We are like everyone else, get rubbish reception most of the time, and are also thinking about the dreaded dish.

I can't understand why the caravan designers don't put these on instead of status? They could design it where you could direct your antenna from inside the van....or is it just me trying to be clever?
