Well we don't have an oven and we are missing the ring for one of our hobs that we haven't been able to replace.  Last year we used a barrell bbq but this year we bought a gas one just incase it rains.  We put pots and pans on it and as for keeping food warm, that is easy we just wrap it in foil and the food stays steaming for ages. 

We do have one of them little electric ovens and a microwave that we got with the van but we haven't used either since there isn't a set place for them and you need electric not always possible.  I don't think I would really use an oven even if I had one, but that's a whole other story lol

I wouldn't be without my caravan oven.  I was irritated that it only had one shelf and so I bought another.

We use it for heating croissants for breakfast, for pies, lasagne's, roast chicken, casseroles and of course - good 'ol oven chips! wedges etc,.

We also use it in conjunction with the barbeque, when we need to make sure that something is safely cooked through & kept hot whilst we add other items to the BBQ.

- and I warm the (plastic) plates by putting them in the grill compartment whilst the oven is on. 

- I never use the grill apart from that - so could easily do without a grill in the caravan and at home.

Our oven door is tied shut with string because the hinge attachments have broken (oh is a marvellous mr-fix-it, but he's stumped) and I really miss not being able to cook wedges. I'm not bothered about getting it fixed because it wasn't really much good - took 2 hours to cook a pizza!) and the grill is useless. To be fair its an old van and we're upgrading so I'm hoping someone out there won't mind buying a van with a croc oven. The top burners work fine though.

My point (I am getting there, honest!) is that on reflection I'd rather a properly functioning cooker than a microwave because we hardly ever use ours (just ready meals and heating up beans). I miss having a proper grill because I've been fancying gammon, egg and potatoes (God, I'm hungry), and I hate fried stuff (except eggs and mushrooms).

Everyone talks about the Sunday Roast - I'm usually too busy packing up to go home to even think about dinner - would this be on weekly trips or do you stay all day on a Sunday? The first outing we have with our new van (when I get one), I'm going to attempt one - Aunt Bessies and all! "Gonna need a bigger fridge"

Who says a roast has to be on a Sunday?   Actually, I do often cheat with my roast chicken and I just buy one of those cooked-chilled ones and re-heat it in the caravan oven.  Then I serve it with new pots & veg and a pouch of ready-made gravy.  No mess, no fuss and no salmonella!

My mother does take things a step further and makes delicious recipe meals (including roasts) and puddings from scratch in the caravan.  If you see a sweet, grey-haired lady wearing a pinny with a smudge of flour on her nose - that'll be her.  And you should see all the cooking utensils she takes - and all the fresh produce from her allotment - beyond belief!!
