Hi Everyone

Has anyone got any ideas as to how to stop the kids falling off the top bunk (apart from leaving them at home) ? We have an old Avondale Pearle which has a slide in wooden guard, only about 6" high, which usually ends up on the floor within an hour of them getting into bed !

We abandoned bunks because our three were just so excited by being on holiday that it was nigh on impossible to get them to settle.  None of them actually liked being in the top bunk and would wriggle and kick and it drove us mad.  We ended up getting an awning bed extension and left them in the caravan to sleep in the doubles or on the floor, whatever.  Left the van door half open. We actually enjoyed the privacy of the awning and found the air mattress more comfortable. Also liked the being in a tent again feel. Kids loved feeling free of moaning adults.

I would use a bed guard, just the normal ones you use at home.

Thanks for the replies - unfortunately the design of the top bunk means a normal bed guard won't work as there is no mattress to slide it under !

Sleeping in the annex sounds fine in the summer but not too sure about the winter !! Our three fight over who gets the top bunk as they all want it ???

My brother in law fixed a net for his young son.  Permantly attached to the bunk,( it held the bed guard in) with clips that fixed to the roof and side.  I guess something like that would depend on the construction of your van.

I get nervous when I'm drilling holes into the van !

Like the duck tape idea but maybe just a couple of cheap airbeds as a soft landing zone would suffice !

check the guard fixings they should not come out easily, or devise a mechanism to clamp it in place.
