During the past umpteen years we have used hangers bought from Lakeland Plastics and have found them to be fantastic. They have trouser/skirt bars, are foldable and have sprung opening jaws that form a complete ring around the rail so they can't jump off. Very easy to use, very light to carry, very effective. Two downsides -
1. You can't heap heavy clothes on them (ie two anoraks with fleeces and heavyweight trousers at the same time) or the jaws are forced open by the weight.
2. I'm not sure if Lakeland do them any more. You could look them up on your search engine and try their web site.
The other thing that we found quite effective before we had the hangers was putting a length of plastic pipe lagging around the rail. Generally the lagging is just too wide to take the hanger hooks and so the hooks tend to bite into the lagging thus making a more secure arrangement.
