I am a new member to the site, and a new caravanner.
I am after some advice please!!
We have a 5 birth Bailey ranger and we have a 18-month daughter and we went out in it for the first time over the weekend. We struggled with our daughter sleeping and we are desperate for a slimline cot (max. width of 65cm) for her to sleep in?
This would fit in between the seats and at the moment she can't sleep in the bed!
Any ideas of where I could get one, for a reasonable price?
ikea do a slim line cot that would fit in between the seat for you, or you could do what we do with our little one (16 months) and let her sleep on the double bed by the front windows that way you wont have to keep moving the cot to use the front of the van.
Hope this helps

We also have a 20 month old and have a 5 berth, he sleeps in a small playpen padded out with a duvet, we put in out in the awning during the day, we seat it on top of the double bed under the bunk and he is a snug as a bug, we also have a sliding door. Also you can get inflatable cots on ebay, very light and usefull.
Hi...not sure where you can get a slimline cot from. We searched high and low when we had our little one with our first van. he was 4 months when we bought it. We used his wooden crib a couple of times as that was the only thing we could fit between the seats. Then dad in law made a cot from a wooden playpen, shortening the sides and re fastening them, but not putting in a floor and we made a matteress. In the end, got so fed up..sold van for a newer one and he slept quite happily on a bottom bunk with a bed guard and a cushion on the floor incase he did roll out. He slept like that from being about 1yr. And now at nearly six and in our brand, spanking, new shiny van (sorry..still get giddy about it!)...manages to fall out of his bunk on a regular basis!!! Never did that when he was little!
when we used to go away in a rented van we would make a bed up between the two bunks with a thick quilt folded up as a mattres then put a baby gate across the gap in effect making a cot in the footwell between the beds

never argue with an idiot, they will bring you down to their level and beat you on experience
We use a samsonite pop up bubble. Bought it for in the TT so it could sit ontop of one of the beds. Now have Bailey Ranger with fixed bunks we have to squash the top down a little to fit it on the bottom bunk. However the bubble is only suitable for up to 18 months so we have just bought a bed guard (less than £17 from ASDA at the moment) for when he's a little older. Being fixed bunk the matteress is thick/heavy enough to use it with.
Maybe the Little Life cot would be sutable to sit ontop of the rear double. It's says it suitable up to 3 years.
I like the look of the bubble, infact im getting one for my next littleun for the van, but try your local nursery shop for them, my local one has a similar thing (just not branded for about £25
Cheap and simple solution would be a large, stout, high sided cardboard box with a mattress or folded duvet in the base. Wedge it in between the seats and there would be no possibility of it tipping. You really only need it for a few more months so why spend a lot of money? Most travel cots are only rated up to age two, after all.
We have just got a bed rail to use for the first time this weekend. On the bottom bunk. Our littleun is 19 months so I will let you know how he gets on.
Hopefully someone can help. Our first little un is due in November, and we hope to be out caravanning again the following March - so (s)he will be 5 months old then. We have a Pageant Vendee Series 5 so a fixed double bed and a L shaped front end. Where could a travel cot go? We also have a large greyhound and we don't really want him sleeping next to the baby for obvious reasons.
Are we mad, or is this doable, if so, HOW?
We have a vendee and have slept our grandchildren in the double bed with a bed rail and extra pillows and have not had any problems. the youngest one was 7 months old.
We used out standard travel cot. In our 4 berth van (single bunks at the rear). The cot is too wide for a single bed, so I made a wooden support that widens the area, allowing the travel cot to sit on top of the bed space.
In our new (to us) 5 berth, the cot fits lengthway on one half of the double at the back, and I have again made some wooden boards to allow the extra width to be supported.

A pic of the Samsonite bubble cot is there - this closes up fully to avoid sniffing dogs and mozzies! We got two for the twins. At the moment they can share - but not for long...
The cot can go anywhere it is flat. We liked these cots as they have sides to protect from draughts a bit too. They fold away in a little bag for storage, and are quite sturdy with a nice soft base.
And no, you're not mad! We had our now 3 yr old in a TT when she was 9 months. She loves camping and your baby should go where you go. Believe me once its in the blood they love it. All ours sleep like logs. We have a new van with end fixed bunks and the cots go in there great.
