Does anybody have a memory foam mattress. I've been looking for one for the caravan as the converted bed is not all that comfy. I've seen them for £80-£150 for a double. Any ideas ?
Hi, These items are really very comfortable but can be rather a bulky item to carry around in a caravan....they take quite a bit of space up even rolled up tightly. You can see them advertised in the Caravan Club Mag and also the Camping & Caravanning Club Mag. We use one at home and can honestly say it does exactly what it says on the tin!....Floyd.

We bought one to help my wife's bad back but also changed to a fixed bed caravan because the mattress is very bulky to store so it is on the bed all the time. It is very good and does the trick so we can carry on caravanning ! We got ours from Costco . It is the only one we have tried but I trust Costco in terms of quality and price. I think it was about £140 . Can recommend it apart from storage problems. There have been several previous postings on this subject which include comments on cheaper ones so you try a search for more information.
Hi again, There are various thicknesses and no doubt various qualities too. The one we use is around 2 inches deep and we like it a lot. But to use them in a caravan and have to keep taking the bed down would be a real pain after a day or two. Like misterg suggests they would be fine in a fixed bed model caravan. Floyd.
I have 2 inch memory foam topper and it's the best thing I've bought for the van, I just could not get a good nights sleep on the cusions alone.I roll it up tight and put luggage straps around it then store it in the shower.
We use the front as 2 singles with memory foam mattresses which I bought off e bay (3 inch thick), it does the trick and we get a good nights sleep then roll them up and stickthem in the car out of the way. Its still not as good as a sprung mattress but a lot better than the original.
We bought a memory foam topper from Argos, about £75 ish I think. Used it in our previous van when we made up the double, and used a duvet over, very comfortable. Rolled it up and kept it in the shower during the day.
Now changed to a fixed bed so stays in place all the time!
We bought a memory foam topper from Cushy Numbers (they're on the web and on Ebay). It cost about £40 for a double, which we roll up, strap round and keep in the shower during the day.
It certainly helps with the bed comfort and was a worthwhile investment. We also have one (a single) by Rakself (which was much more expensive) but I can't say there is an obvious difference in quality, except that it has a covering over the foam.
The sellers of expensive ones make claims that the density of the foam is better etc,. - but then they would, wouldn't they?
As long as you compare the thickness when you compare prices, I don't think the quality varies much.
We have just brought a single 2 " memory foam toppper for about £55.00, becuase my partner complaint of a bad back when we went on our holidays for 2 weeks in the caravan. He said he could not put up with it any more. Since we brought the topper he has never complaint well worth the money.
Raskelf worth a look. At home we have Tempur mattress which is massively expensive but there is no way OH would go back to any of the cheaper ones. Tried the lot really and there most def. is a big difference with Tempur. OH now sleeps through the night which he had not done for some 40 years. We are considering having all cushions in our new caravan (when we get it) made up out of Tempur. Will certainly put it on a fixed double bed if that's what we get instead. Downside, very heavy and bulky. Also it does make you sweat because it fits so exactly to your body. I do find this a problem and so need absorbent cotton layer as well. If you have medical problems with joints back etc., and if they are severe, then Tempur is the answer. If its just aches and pains, a lesser topper may well suffice.
