MrAB, I imagine the only way that the nylon guard could be broken off is that, because of the acute angle (tight turn), the blade may have slipped off the nylon and ledged onto the L bracket. Then, on reversing, the van hitch would be compressed and the weight of the car would have been thrust against the nylon guide via the blade. If this is the case, you may need to move the bracket on the A frme a bit firther forwards (towards the hitch).
For the Bulldog 200Q and 300Q stabilisers, the instructions for positioning the A frame L bracket are:
Load car and van as normal, and hitch up in a straight line on a level surface. Ensure the hitch is fully forward (as during towing).
Position the L bracket so that the blade protrudes 100mm (4 inches) to the rear of the nylon guide.
Hope this is helpful, Bertie.
