Hi All

I just wondered what tales you all have of caravaning, or are we just unlucky!!

We only bought our Bailey Indiana in May this year, out of the 7 times we have been out in it we have had the following.

1)  First time out after picking it up, had to come home on back of AA trailer due to our car brakes locking on.

2)  2nd time out,  but the first night we had put up our Issabella full awning, it rained and hail-stoned, and the awning fell down, damaging 3 carbonX poles, making a hole in the roof, one making a hole in the awning window, as well as putting a dent in the caravan

3)  3rd time out, the indicators at the back wouldn't work, so we decided to take it to Berkshire caravans to see if they could suggest a solution, well as they are so packed in, my husband broke the top indicator light by manovering it, fortunately it didn't damage any of the other caravans there, it just touched the awning rail. All it needed was a spray of WD40 on the towing contacts.

4) 4th time out, our Westie Bobby, decided to exit our caravan from the window which was open but the flyscreen was down, so big hole the size of a westie

5) 5th time out went to Pembrokshire in Sept, and stayed on a camping and caravan site about 1 mile from the Irish Sea, and we got the tail end of huricaine Gordon.  People were told not to tow so nobody could leave to come home,  well the caravan rocked so much that our tea was slopping out of our mugs!  I couldn't sleep properly for 3 days, the noise from the wind and the caravan rocking from side to side, it was like being on a train!!

On two other occassions we have been out without any mishaps!! but despite all the above we still love it.....  Just wondered about some of your experiences.  Regards Elaine

Hi Elaine,   things can only get better!    Keep on at that rate, and you will soon have a brand new unit, bult in stages.   Glad to hear that you are determined to carry on caravanning.

Err - was it coincidence that you posted your "experiences" on Friday 13th???

Bertie

On our first trip I asked the wife to tell me to stop when the back of the van was a meter off the fence, this will give us enough room for the water etc. OK she replies. I reverse nice and steady all going well, then I thought that fence looks quite close and still no indication from the wife. I gently eased the clutch up and at this point the unit went rigid. I had clearly come to rest against something. I get out and heads to the back, the light cluster on the van was resting against a concrete fence post. I said I thought you was going to tell me to stop when I was a meter off the fence, a meter she replies I thought you said a centimeter. At that point she said I’m off to find the toilet. Anyway I pulled the van forward and proceed to unhitch, as I pulled away from the van I feel a bit of a tug. I thought I must have been a bit low with the hitch and it had rubbed the ball as I went forward. As I’m adjusting the height I notice the light cable sticking out with no plug attached, the wife came up and enquired what I was looking at. She takes one look and informs me I had must have lost the plug on the way. No I replied I know where it is it’s still in the back of the car. What did you do that for? I said I just wanted to see how far I could stretch it. Oh she says, did I remember to pack my sunglasses? And that was the end of that conversation. Still no real damage done and looking back quite funny.
Dave.

I hadn't realised it was Friday 13th when I posted it.  Yes it's funny how you laugh after the event.

Thanks Purplehat, I 'll look forward to those experiences, not!!

Dave, I hope your subsequent trips away haven't been so eventful. LOL
