Hi gang I need a little help / advice please..

The front leg / support on my van is causing a problem....

To start off, I wound the leg up ready to set off for a weekend away and it got so far then dropped away from the winding mechanism...upon inspection it looks like the "lugs" that support and move it have worn away giving a loose fit....

I managed to pop it back into place and secure it...

I'm just wondering if anybody else has had a similar problem and can advise the best solution?? Is there an easy fix? Will it need a "pro" to sort it? Will it require a new leg / mechanism?

Hope you can help and thanks in advance..

Cheers,Mark

Cheers Wizard I think that may do the job..I'l have to have a quick nose under the van to make sure...I'm presuming it's just a straight forward case of replacing the fitting??

Thanks for the quick response!

Thanks,Mark

are you sure its not the nylon bush thats gone?

Replacing Nylon Nut With Cast Type Tools:

WD 40,13mm Spanner,Hammer,Strong Grips,Vice if possible,

  1. Spray both 13mm nuts with releasing oil,no. 1 in diagram
  2. Undo both 13mm nuts.If the whole bolt spins then the top of bolt will have to be found. It is normally located under under a bunk and under lino.
  3. The steady can now be slid forward slightly and it should drop down and be taken off the van.
  4. Remove old nylon nut and clean off screw.
  5. Bend the rear of the steady outwards to 45 degrees at point 2 using a pair of grips
  6. Screw the cast nut about 6 inches onto the screw.
  7. locate the nut lug into the hole on the side of the steady that hasn't been bent.To do this don't move the nut but separate the jack leg from the jack body.
  8. The nut is now at a 45 degree angle, tap the flat surface down and the second lug should be forced down into the hole. The nut is now in correct position.
  9. straighten the bent side of the jack using a hammer or a vice, the lug should be located in it's hole.
  10. Large screws should be able to be purchased with the new nuts and should be fitted to stop the nut from jumping out of it's holes.
  11. Lubricate the screw and refit the jack to the van.
