I think that we just have to accept that we caravanners are in a minority like it or not, and there are a great many people who aren't caravanners who resent the presence of caravans parked in a residential district. These are usually the ones influenced by the likes of Clarkson and his merry band of bigoted followers.

There are others who don't give a toss one way or the other.

I could store my 'van on the drive at home and I don't suppose there would be any objection from either side, but I don't. I choose to store it vountarily a) 'cos I happen to think that it would be an eyesore - despite it being almost new and in top rate condition - b) it's a dead giveaway occupancy wise, when it's not there and c) we would lose the side access to the house.

As eyesores go, I don't much go for the parking of commercial vehicles in residential streets either but that's another issue. Sometimes it simply can't be avoided but that doesn't make me like it any the more.

My 'van is only on the drive for a couple of days before we go away and a couple of days after we get back. No one could possibly object to that surely.

I would want something VERY special for that kind of money ie hardstanding, under cover, washbay, the full monty. I thought that the £425.00 pa that I paid this year to the Caravan Club for storage at Commons Wood CC Site was plenty enough, but it pales to insignificance against your figure.

I can only think that it must be the only storage site for many miles around and they are charging accordingly.

If I was you I'd look at the CaSSOA listings for your area. You may be able to do better by driving a few extra miles.

Supply and demand determines the price. In Kent, land is at a premium and we pay around £450 per annum.  £600 sounds very steep but I suppose if I were the storage site owner, I'd look at my waiting list and raise the prices until I got consumer resistance. If I were the consumer, at £600.00 I would most definitely pull out the stops to find an alternative. This may sound a bit daft, but there are retired couples and singles who are finding finances a struggle.  They may still have large gardens which they can't manage.  The two might go together, you pay them for the use of part of their garden. Worth an ad in your local rag? The ideal solution might just come up.

They have had quite a large problem with caravans being stolen in the past so they have a state of the art security system.They also charge by length. Maybe I've got it wrong but it was nearly £400 back in the early nineties.

Its the Autumn! People burn stuff in the autumn and have been doing so for a lot longer than they have been building caravans.

You cant have a fire on a monday iirc, otherwise its all perfectly organic!

Perhaps a friendly word would encourage him to batch his burnables, rather than keep them trickling on ad nauseam. He modified his behaviour when asked last time, so perhaps this will be a compromise.

You can buy "new" smell in an aerosol now btw.!!

I had a run in with my neighbour  from over the road,over my caravan but on a different note. I had my old caravan round the back of my house in the garden i went and bought a new one and placed it on the green belt on the side of my house but right at the back out of view for one night only.I phoned a scrap dealer and they informed me they would pick the old van up in the morning.  Meanwhile my  new van was  going into storage. Following morning the scrap dealer turned up as promised and we were getting the new one ready to put in sorage. Just at that moment an official looking gentleman came over and gave me some cock and bull storey how an inspector was working in the near by woods and noticed the van and reported it to be gypsys the scrap dealer turned and said ive heard some rubbish in my life someone has reported you and the official went red and confirmed it. The neighbour was bragging to others that he had done it and they told me, he is a 24 yr lod kid who washes his car twice a week mows is lawn every other day and him and the wife both havfe private plates on their cars the other neighbours all nick name them posh and becks lol . I agree with other posts left it all boils down to jealousy.

Phew loukell.  Got me going there for a minute.  I thought you were going to say scrap dealer had taken wrong van.

Don't worry about the neighbour, most of us have to put up with one or more of these jerks.   Just wait your time, I'll bet one day they'll get their cumuppence.  Then you can have last laugh!!
