Hi Kate, and welcome to the forum.
I had a blow-out on the M6 with tyrons fitted.Very very slight damage to wheel-arch, just a DIY repair, but more importantly, the tyre stayed on the rim. The danger with the tyre coming off the rim is that there is a possibility of the rim digging in to the tarmac, causing the caravan to overturn. I can honestly say that I wouldn't want to tow a 'van without them, and when I ordered my new 'van earlier this year, they were the first extra I asked for. Don't forget the spare wheel if you're getting them fitted-you wouldn't want a blow-out at 60 mph if it was in use.
By the way, if you click on "Search" (above), and enter "motor movers" in the "caravan" section, you'll find lots of info there.

I had a blow out on my Mayfly about 5 miles into our holiday a few years ago whilst overtaking an 'artic'.
The damage.....Firstly the tyre did stay on the rim and shredded dramatically. The arch lining was displaced...both sides of the cupboard were badly holed and splintered. The 'fridge in the next cupboard had both gas and electric connections severed. Splinters and general dust and dirt were strewn around the inside of the 'van. A lot of items in the affected cupboards were damaged. The external wheel arch was damaged and a 6" square hole was punched in the floor.
The reason.....After over 40years of Caravanning I decided that the 'just visible' hairline cracks in the tyres were OK for one more holiday.
The result.....We continued with our holiday by making the damage safe and cleaning up generally. After the holiday it took about 40hrs work to repair all the damage to a high standard.
I don't use Tyrons but I do believe they should be standard on all 'vans.

Hi There, I had a blowout just approaching the Humber Bridge on my way to North Yorks,I was feeling pretty pleased with myself having just overtaken a similar outfit, I was doing approx 55 mph, when I heard, before I felt an alarming rumble from behind my tow vehicle, I looked in the rear view mirror and my caravan was bouncing alarmingly behind me, Luckily enough the outfit stayed in a straight line and I came to a controlled stop. but the damage was dramatic,The tyre had shredded to bits, taking out the inner and outer wheel arch, all the waste pipes from the shower and kitchen, and produced a 2ft hole in the floor,Luckily this was covered by insurance, but it was 12 weeks before I got my van back, I now change my tyres every 3 years,i know this is less than advised, but for the sake of £120.00 it is worth it,I would like to add that even if a a tyre looks good,ie plenty of tread, if it over 5 years old bin it. you will save yourself a lot of heartache and possibly money, it is the sidewalls that go,regardless of the ammount of tread on the tyre.
