No....the Beauclaire all dismantles and packs in a bag , so no need to leave it assembled. There is nothing to chain to anyway. It only takes a few minutes to assemble.
For the Omnivent, most caravan shops will have them, but check on-line as you may get one much cheaper. I don't think you will have warranty problems. It is a direct replacement for the small roof vent so no cutting needed.
John G (I think) is the one to tell you how to fit it, he has done a few. If it isn't him then he will know who it is. Do a search to see if any tips come up.
Karen the light one was at the show recently but I didn't look at it. I have the heavy cast iron one too like jennifer. I think the light one is aluminium with a non stick surface but I have the feeling the non stick wont stay on that long - but that is just my opinion.

Yes I love cooking in our van, anything from a fresh boiled egg from the farmhouse to a full roast with pudding. We are lucky enough to have a 4 ring Full oven in the van. BUT no microvave.!....... do I miss one? Well I suppose if we had one he could do more cooking... ""scratches head"" could this be why he says we dont need one?

Hi Jennifer how do you rate your Beauclaire. I think its excellent I have the family one with cast iron 2 sided plate - Large flat Paella dish - wok - dome lid - roasting dish - all in a purpose bag. I have learnt to cook anything on it even pizza's and pancakes. Cleaning can be a pain sometimes I use the power clean spray as its cooling down. I try and think up new things to do on it - Ideas greatfully accepted.

I hope you don't mind me jumping in on this one. We've cooked with a Beauclaire for years & are now on our 2nd one. We always use Bake-o-glide non stick paper on ours, it cooks just as though you're cooking direct on the cast iron plate but all you have to wash is the sheet of Bake-o-glide. The stuff is brilliant, we use it at home in our aga as well, we line the roasting tin with it, place a disc in the bottom of a frying pan, anything. It make useing the Beaucliare so much easier because, as you say,the cast iron plate is not the easiest thing to wash up.
Click on the link below & have a look, it's not cheap but it'll last a season with ease, longer if you look after it.
Cheers both, points noted, I'll go for the heavier original one then!
Thanks for the tip about JohnG, I'll do a search. I didn't know it replaced the vent, I thought it sat underneath. We have big tilt and slide roof windows at each end of the van so I'm sure we won't miss a little one.
We don't have a microwave in ours either. There's a specific overhead locker in the new van for one, but I don't know if the one I have will fit in it (cheapie from Tesco), I'll have to look out for a small (and obviously more expensive) one. I'm not too bothered at the moment because I'm sooooo happy to have proper cooking facilities!!!
OH is going to have a fit with me - new omnivent, new bbq - not to mention the mattress topper I NEED not want for myself for next season (that was a whole other thread!)
Thanks again both, for your advice, and apologies for hijacking the topic - I have a bad habit of doing that
Karen, the omnivent comes as a complete unit in its own frame with "lid", so you just remove the existing vent and cover and put in the Omnivent instead. Most vans come with the 12v wire already there. Best check that first. You might need to put one in.
The only thing to watch is that you seal the frame to the roof properly, as if you did get any water in that way you would have no claim on your warranty. But it should not affect the warranty on the rest of the van. If you are worried you could get your dealer to fit it for you.
Hi BB you maysave my life here. My beloved is always moaning about the time and effort it takes to clean the damn thing. But I religiously clean it back to original state. Which of these liners should I go for? Why have I not seen these before?
