Hi. we are thinking of selling our m/home and buying a freedom Jetstream 1st class after reading the article in the c/club mag this month, mainly to save on 2 lots of tax/ insurance. our car is a 1.4 ford fusion 3 tdci, and the freedom is one of the vans we could tow with it. does anyone have any advise about the freedom. thanks

You can buy a Freedom Jetstream 1st class online and choose extras online like status aerial and Truma gas water heater to be fitted.Blimey first time i have a seen a new caravan to buy  online instead of via a dealer. Says "Add to basket" even.

Its a lightweight caravan and will suit your car for towing, but will layout and small size suit your needs. Is interior of this caravan comparable in size to your existing motorhome that you have knowledge of. Nothing worse than rushing into buying a caravan, then finding out its not suitable and then having to sell it for another one.

Yes i have always thought that owning a motorhome you are out the second tax, insurance and mot costs when you probably have a car aswell. And when you go on holiday you can set up caravan as a base on site once and use car  to explore surrounding area. Whereas with a m/home you have to plug in electric ,waste container out, wheels up on levelling block after a day out. I suppose thats why some m/homes have cycles on back to use so you dont have to keep moving m/home. How is it on holiday with using a m/home for a day out, to park  with some car parks having height restriction?

Hi. Scuba we very rarely have any probs with hight barriers even though it is a hightop van we always find somewhere to park, we mostly use sites that are close to towns or have public transport close by, and we walk a lot, the best thing about a m/home is you have all your equip, with you when you go out in the van, our reason for changing is to cut down the costs of 2 lots of tax/ins..royell.

It depends on the motorhome, Scuba.

The first I had was a small transit conversion with a raising roof and I had no problems parking etc. The 2nd was a coachbuilt, it was a lot longer than a car and very tall and was an absolute pain to go out in for the day, esp. as it had no power steering.

Unless there is an attached awning it isn't really a big deal packing up to go out for the day, just disconnect the ehu if using one and pack away inside and you're off.

I like the little Freedom caravans and have often toyed with the idea of getting one.

I Like the little Freedom caravans & really, when you compare the internal space I think it will probably be more spacious than your existing motorhome.

We have an end kitchen 2 berth caravan and often think if we could just put this layout onto a motor home chassis it would be the ideal size but when we`ve looked at affordable small van conversions they always seem more compact than we would like.

The Freedom is a nice lightweight caravan that, if you`re buying new, can be tailored to your own taste by the guys at Stafford, with every conceivable extra shoe-horned in or as basic as you wish.

I say go for it, give it a try, you can always return to a motocaravan if you decide its not for you.

An alternative lightweight worth a look is the smallest Avondale Dart weighing in at only 1000kg fully loaded, but they do cost more than £10k new.
