 Propane has a slightly lower calorific value than butane and butane burns slightly hotter. Is it you are using a single regulator for both propane and butane and is regulated to 30mb. And with the old system of using 2 seperate regulators the butane regulator was set at 28mb and propane regulator set at 37mb. So with new all in one regulator set at 30mb you are getting less pressure of propane coming through.Yes as michael says gary (arcsystems name here) hopefully will see this post soon and advise you he works on caravan gas appliances for a living.

I recently swapped from butane to propane and changed to a propane regulator. I tried the hob just to check it worked and I thought that seemed a little less powerful than with butane although still gives a good flame. I haven't tried the oven. I would also like to know if you should notice any difference.

Hi,

Im not sure if this relevant but... We have only ever used Propane and last time we went away I noticed that our flame didnt reduce, it also kept "dancing" up an down. However, after about 5 mins it settled down and was fully controllable, maybe you have to leave it for a bit to warm up and then try to turn it up.

Scuba, The calorific value of Propane is slightly higher than butane;

Propane= 13.89 kwh/litre               Butane = 13.69 kwh/litre

That I would say is very mis-leading unless perhaps it's taking into account the different pressures the two run at. Butane is actually 31% higher than Propane but to take account of this butane is delivered at a 33% higher pressure. Given that Propane would win a race by a short head, however with both at 30mb Butane is by far the hotter/quicker gas

Sorry been away this weekend celerbrating the surprise 60th birthday party of the good lady wife of the guy who got me into caravanning (I wanted a boat!!)  some 10 years ago...damn good do it was

Anyway what oven is this? I wonder if you have a rusty pipe leading to the jet and that little extra pressure with propane has shoved all the flakes of rust up against the jet and it's that causing your problem.

More common than you would think!!

 "Propane is the second of the two LPG gases used in caravans. While it has a slightly lower calorific value than butane, propane can be used at temperatures of -40ÞC. You will get slightly less propane in your cylinder than you would butane, but since it can be used at any temperature, many all-season caravanners will use only propane".   Practical Caravan Magazine quote. http://www.practicalcaravan.com/a-z/page2.html

 Yes try garys advice "he`s in the know". Glad you had a good time at do Gary
