If you have a 240v system with a zig type control panel the awning light is often run from the auxilliary switch. I know little about electrics so can't advise you how that is connected up.
If the light has it's own switch then it can simply be run off the nearest 12v circuit inside the van. Presuming your caravan is a typical design i.e. the fridge to the left of the door with a cupboard above it, then you could bring the wiring straight through to the inside of the cupboard, maybe with conduit to protect it inside the cupboard as Grub suggested, then find the fridge 12v supply wire and connect it to that. You can buy 12v 'T' connectors which makes it a simple job.
In my caravan there is a black wire tacked to the underside of the van floor (outside) which runs underneath the van from the point where the 12s wires enter the van, to a point underneath the fridge where it simply goes back through the floor and re-appears inside the van underneath the fridge at the front. Stick you hand under the fridge housing at the front and you should find the wires coming up through the floor there (or that's where mine are). They may be neatly clipped to the underside of the housing so you may have to pull the wiring out of the clips. There should be plenty of slack available.
That's my uneducated suggestion. If there is a better or easier way, I'm sure the experts here will advise you when they spot the message.
