New to this site and new to forums, so asking quite a bit tonight. Anyone know the best way to get a good night's sleep in an old van without waking up feeling like your back has spent the night on a stretching rack? Heard about tempur matresses but expensive and are they any good?

The seat bases used to form the bed in our old compass had ollapsed under 12 seasons of being seats all day & a bed all night & we were waking with aching backs. We decided to send them to Tockfield to be refilled with new foam. They have a foam they call Tockfield comfort system & we elected to have that.

We cut the covers off our cushions as described by them & posted them off in a box on a Tuesday morning. Tockfield called us on the Wednesday for our credit card details & the Seats were delivered back to us & were in our van by lunchtime on the Thursday. In less than 48 hours they'd gone from Brstol to Derbyshire benn refilled & were back ready for use.

The workmanship was excellent & the seats were as good as new. To be hnest, I can't remember how much it cost but it won't cost you anything to have a peep on their website & see what's on offer. They used to offer a free pitch on their own site while your cushions were being done but I'm not sure if that's stll there now.

I find a bottle of sauvignon blanc often gives me a good nights sleep, that and if it rains for the first night - keeping me awake, after that, the second night, I just sleep!! like a log!

Try here http://www.raskelf.com/caravan_1.htm

We have one each of these and have been very pleased with them. I have a 2" density and other half has a 1" density.  My back feels every bit of uneveness & I find I get a decent nights sleep.

Sometimes it's the way the cushions are arranged we used to turn the face down and arrange them so the larger cushions were under our backs and the narrow one's at the foot end... fortunately we now have a fixed bed.. bliss

I followed a friends advice and got two duvets and sleep on one, it is just as comfy as the matress topper I have at home, lol have not gone anywhere yet but we could not resist sleeping in the van for a few nights.

Been on the Raskelf site, what's the difference between a Portable Overlay and a Mattress Topper (apart from price)? They both look the same to me and do the same job.

Saying that, I've seen mattress toppers advertised in places like Rosebys for £39 so I think Raskelf are a bit on the expensive side.  This is a topic very dear to my heart because I have a full memory foam mattress at home because I have back problems and the seat cushions on our brand new van are like rock, I love being in her but dread the sleepless nights (while oh snores his head off ) A single will do me because after much experimenting we've found it better to keep to the daybeds rather than put the double up.

Any ideas???
