Yes....
if I remember correctly (it has been 4 months since I last put the awning up) there are two poles on the front horizontal bar that do not have clips. I think these are the two that go onto the centre T piece. It seems strange but doesn't seem to affect the stability of the awning in any way. I found the instructions were quite clear and the awning goes up easily, so maybe it's best not to think too much and follow the numbers.
