Hi Janice!

I used to tow my ABI Adventurer (850Kg fully loaded) with a bright yellow Megane 1.6 Coupe. It was a great little tow car, but I did end up ruining the rear suspension and making it sag even when the caravan was detached. So I'd advise against putting heavy stuff in the boot, put the awning in the van on the floor over the axle.

As for 'lightweight' then common sense applies really. Go for the more expensive but lighter outdoor furniture, or just make do with a blanket on the grass. Do your food shopping after setting up on site, not before you go. Travel with all the caravan tanks empty and just carry a few litres of water in the car. If the back seats in the car are free, load up the footwells with heavy stuff.

Above all: ENJOY!

Andrew
