I've never heard of cars with tow bars being hired. I imagine there would be an insurance issue here. The variations in towing experience, plus the different types of caravan likely to be towed would create a nightmare for insurance companies to calculate charging rates.
I was about tomention a place in Paddock Wood in Kent that hire all manner of 4x4's inc Discoveries and Range Rovers; but then saw where you live
I can endorse the earlier recommendation for SHB hire. We hired a Defender 110. They supplied the correct height adjustable tow bar and even fitted an 'Alko' tow ball. I rang them first, explained what I wanted, what I was towing and the type of towball, sent a few piccies and hey presto! all waiting for me on collection.
They also hire other types of 4x4 including the Land Rover range, Mitsubishi's, Nissans and others.
if you cant get a car ..try a van, quite a few transits etc have towbars fitted
I work part time In a car hire place ..Discovery and the Volvo XC90 do come with towbars , but very expensive day hire IIRC its about £140 per day as it classed as executive

Are you the man with Queen who is also interested in astronomy? Sorry, don't know about the car hire.
This has made me chuckle Do you really think that Brian May from Queen would use his name on this forum? I "May" be proved wrong but I love the humour nevertheless. Surely his name would be Starfleet or something like.
brian may i wish thanks for the replys but have tried c.c car hire all seem to rent 4x4 with tow bar but the snag is they dont supply you with ins you have to get your own and ins wont cover you for short periods only for a full year so will have to buy a4x 4 thanks everyone for help
