We are 2 big and 3 little ones who wish to join the caravan fraternity but have no idea what to look for in a caravan. We have limited (very) funds to purchase a 5 berth caravan that a Hyundai Trajet could pull.
A bit of an open question but what should we look out for when buying second hand and is e-bay an absolute no-no? We have a budget of around £4k. Is this even realistic?
I should think you could get a very nice van for £4k. E-Bay would be the first place I would look when buying a van, my friend is chuffed to bits with the lovely Bailey van she bought off there for £3,000 last year. I`m sure the experts will be along to advise shortly.

hi read this first.......... Buying Secondhand it states buy a damp meter and use it,if you do not the disappointment can be high as per previous post.if they say no damp meter walk away.anything else is easy to correct.look here first to buy......... to be safe stick to 85% of kerb weight when buying the caravanyours is a good weight anyway.
As a first timer I would look at the dealers networks and buy from them, as most will give a years warranty, that at least gives a tiny bit of peace of mind
Wow! quick responses. Thanks for the info and advice.
Not sure what layout but something where the kids bit can be closed off at night for sure.
It sounds a bit pot luck if you don't know what you are looking for and we don't. We don't know any caravanners (it feels a bit like a guilty pleasure even talking about it!) so if there is any in Cumbria who can point us in the right direction.... all offers of assistance will be met with beer, wine and home made cakes!
We got our 93 5 birth elddis for £3495.We've paid out a bit but thats only for our comfort,We are chuffed with ours and have no intention in getting rid.Have a look around. We got ours out of the local admad.1 good word of advice we had was ,check it's been seviced every year, and ask to see report.
