Well, we've done it... After a couple of months of talking about it, on saturday we ordered a shiney new Bailey Senator 5 Louisiana from the NEC. Got a really good deal on it too (I felt really proud of myself for that one).

So, being caravan virgins we need everything from a leisure battery to aquarolls, awnings to bedding. Does anyone know of a decent shop doing mail order that'll do me a reasonable deal on some bulk buying? A web catalogue would be even better!

Be sure to keep an eye out for two novices with a pair of German Shepards turning up on a site near you! If you see us, run for the hills because you can bet we're going to need help!

So do I, we've kinda jumped in a the deep end a little bit

The truth is, we really needed somewhere to be comfortable with our hounds. I couldn't see them in the kennels any more, it was breaking my heart.

Have you had any problems with yours?

No problems at all Steve, oh apart from a noisy water pump which appeared to be a problem on the senator range as a whole, but when it went in for service it was changed. We use the van all year round and it hasn't had any problems.

Well, that's a great testimonial! We're intending to use it all year round also as I love going walking, even in bad weather (I was at the top of snowdon between xmas & new year).

How have you got on in hot summers? I've been tempted by an aircon unit as I don't like to be sticky at night. We're also hoping to pop over to france mid september so I want to make sure I'm comfortable

You could find yourself being very unpopular using aircon - especially at night, in the UK - not through jealousy (!) but because the running noise is quite considerable.  I believe it is better tolerated and much more common outside the UK.  You might want to think about this aspect carefully before you spend the dosh!

Hi Steve

We take our dogs with us to France fairly regularly without any problems. We find the Eurotunnel to be best as they stay with us in the car, and on the return they really have got the PETS scheme well and truly sorted.

I'm sure you know already, but don't forget to check their rabies shots are in date and you have all the paperwork when you go, and depending where you go, you may need extra protection for them for tics/sandflies etc.

If you need any info then will be pleased to help.

BTW - a great site for walking with dogs is The Strid - Caravan Club site, Bolton Abbey Yorkshire.

We're off to the NEC in the morning to check out the Isabella awnings, hear they have some great deals at the show.

Steve, we were in France in June where the temp. was about 30 deg. what we did was reverse the extractor so it was blowing cold air and also had a cooling fan with us. For all it was hot during the day, at night it wasn't. No fans on, just windows open with flyscreens & blinds pulled. As the door doesn't have a flyscreen, we made our own by buying the screens you would use on household door and adapting it to size, worked a treat. Anything else just ask
