Hi

We plan to venture out next weekend for our first ever caravan holiday. I am pretty confident that I can set up the caravan etc but am not to sure about the awning.

I have just purchased a brand new Dorma Sirroco awning and its still in the box. I dont have enough room at home to pratices putting it up, any tips on hoe to put it up? Shall I open it up at *home

f45irst to chech if all the parts are there? is there anything extra I need or do all required parts come in the boxes?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

Good luck with the trip. It might seem silly but make sure you have a hammer or mallet to bang the pegs in!!! Also an old candle or silicone spray for the awing bead, it might not be required but handy to haveit with you.

I agree with David Klyne and also with a full sized awning we lay out the poles in front of us in the correct place where they should go but leaving enough room for the awning.  Slide in the awning using the Lubricant if it doesn't slide in easily then put up the centre poles this will give the awning a bit of stability then move on to the other poles until it's all up.   You may find it easier to colour code the awning poles using different colours of electrical tape or sticky labels  or number them, thats what we did.    Hope that helps good luck!

Hi Dave, we bought the Dorema Sirocco last year. We have used it about 4 times and are very pleased with it. It goes up really easily and the instructions are very good and simple to follow. We opened ours up at home first just to check it was all there and we attached all the rubber ladders to the bottom of the awning to save a bit of time on site as we had never put an awning up before. We were suprised at how easy it went up and were pretty pleased with ourselves as this was our first attempt. Last summer when it was really hot, we removed all the four panels and it makes a really airy sun canopy. All in all we are very happy withour purchase and have purchased a bedroom annex which we shall be trying out this summer! See Here

Yes it is a great idea to check all the parts are there. When we bought our NR we opened up in the lounge attached all the rubbers and clamps for the poles saved us a good hour on site. One tip I think is very good before you set out. Is tear a piece of old shirt about 1 inch wide x 12 inch long then tie a knot in one end so it forms a ball about the diameter of the awning track, then insert the knot in the channel run it round the the whole lenght of the track. This will clear out any bugs that have decided to hibernate there.do this a couple of times so you know its clear then spray silicone or furniture polish in the channel and your awning will glide along. One less thing to argue about good luck. Dont forget a mallet also your pegs are probably plastic they are fine unless below the grass are lots of stones and it may be worth you investing in strong steel or rock pegs but not straight away.

If your pitch has hard standing you'll need rock pegs and a lump hammer.

Good idea to make it a "quiet" weekend trip, nothing too serious. Consider it a rehearsal for the big trip, the more you rehearse the better you will get. In no time you will be off to better climes and greater adventures all over europe - don't be restricted by your initial concerns - all will become clear.

Good Luck

degsy

Thanks for all the replies. Looks like I will get it out of the box and attach the ladders then.
