Has anyone swapped their g4 halogen bulbs for led lights. After reading a few articles and finding out they consume about 1/7th of the power of the halogens LED's are becomming more attractive. We go for upto 2 weeks on rally sites with no hook up and have always managed before running lights and water off the battery without need to mess about with generators and solar panels.I have just bought a new van which will gobble up the battery far quicker than my 21 year old challenger used to.This seems the single biggest change i can make to save power and would be greatly interested in anyones experience or thoughts on changing to LED's.I have seen either a full replacement lamp and fitting at o'leary's for £15 each or replacement bulbs for £8.Is it as simple as just swapping them over,i am pretty clueless when it comes to electrics so would welcome any advice.many thanks
You dont mention what van it is. However if it is a bailey they do a upgrade kit dont know how much though. Also if you find the CAK tanks website they show them in there. I think there will be a lot of this coming thru development soon.

Some have microchip voltage regulation built in. I am not sure how well the others will cope with fluctuating voltages. The ones on this site have voltage regulation.
I use them but they have a ltd spread of light great as spots for reading etc not so good for general lighting of the whole van still use the strip lights for that

the reports i have read over the last few months do not give them a good rating, especially if you want to read by them.there good point is they save battery.which is good if you are on CLs.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
I have been out to maplins this afternoon and bought one. Took it home and tried it. Compared to the halogen bulb its output was dismal. Luckily I lept the receipt and got my money back. Maybe there are good and bad ones. I have an led torch which works well.
