Question for Gary.

Hi,

I have removed the fan master from the heater as the bearings were running dry.  That is now OK.  My question is I noticed that on the back of the motor the little PCB has a short piece of tinned copper wire going nowhere.  From the look of its position it could just go to earth by just touching the mounting bracket but this seems strange!

The motor runs OK as it is.

Any help as to where it should go would be gratefully received.

Is this the picture , from the looks of it the wire piece your on about is just a extra bit , as long as the fan works ok then i'd just trim it back so it doesn't have the chance of shorting .

The wires are earth sinks, one goes over the rubber mouting and the other goes under where it used to clamp onto a metal motor top, yours is plastic so is supposed to touch the motor spindle. I alway pull it around the side and solder it to the side of the motor. You should also have a third loose wire, this is 'C' shaped and goes under and over the bottom rubber mounting.

Truth is though, oil will quieten down worn motor bearings... for a bit!!... but it won't stop the worn motor overloading the control board, it needs a new motor before further damage is done.

Thanks Gary,

The “c” clip is still in place so will solder the other to earth the motor case.

We very rarely use the fan even less the electric heater as it is virtually useless. A fan heater does a much better job if we are on EH, which is not very often.

I have used copper grease but I agree it will not last forever.

Still I do know where to come when it does pack up.

Thanks again and keep up the good work.

JIGINC
