The specification plate, usually on the side of the van, and low down near to the door, gives the following information.
MTPLM (Maximum Technical Permissible Laden Mass) This is the maximum weight that the caravan can be legally, when it is fully loaded for towing.
MIRO (Mass In Running Order) This is the weight of the caravan as supplied by the manufacturer.
Your car (see handbook) must be rated to pull your fully loaded van, so it must have a permissible trailer weight not less than the MTPLM of the caravan.
If you are new to towing, it is advisable that your van when fully loaded should not be more than 85% of the car's permissible trailer weight.
