Ah just took a look at the instructions and they are the fitting instructions , so aren't going to be much help . The way my stabiliser worked was it started to tighten at about 45% but you need to keep pulling the lever over until the knuckle sits down flush again ( hope you see what i mean ) .

I'm assuming that you've just aquired the snakemaster s/h. As stated in the other two posts the correct procedure is to have the lever locked fully down ie. horizontal not at 45 degrees. Are you saying that you're not able to push it down any further than 45 degrees ? Is it too stiff to lever any further than 45 degrees ? If everything is ok and you have the proper toggle bar which is around nine inches long it shouldn't take too much effort to lock the lever down. Of course there are other issues to consider. If you have bought the snakemaster s/h is it in good working order ? The friction discs need to be in good condition and the loading needs be set correctly at 60lb psi. I've just recently fitted new discs to my snakemaster after many years of use. The correct procedure after the discs have been fitted is to make certain that the plates are parallel to each other before attempting to adjust the load. Then you should clamp the end of the snakemaster that locates in the towbar bracket in a vice and lock the lever down and then hang a 60lb weight on the very end of the blade. Tighten the centre bolt until the weight just holds before making the blade move. Then you have the correct tension. A lot of people think that the 60lb torque is applied to the centre bolt but it's not. Sorry this sounds a bit long winded but if the stabiliser isn't working correctly it's a waste of time using it.
