Hi

I place a bid on a caravan unfortunately the reserve was not met, very upset the next day I logged onto my emails and it said I have won by second chance, I was very happy the email said just follow these instruction something start going through my mind this is not right.  I reply to the email ask what instructions the next email was just give us your credit card details and we will deliver the caravan very strange.  Luckily I have the seller’s mobile number so I gave him a call and he said the caravan is not sold because it did not reach the reserve.  I was very luckily l will not buy anything big from eBay again.  Reported the email to eBay, and then sent a not nice email to the hackers.

Hi,

I have been buying and selling from ebay for the past 4 years , never had any trouble except the usual stuff from africa which i assume every body knows by now . Just got to use your common sense when replying to questions. I think those people who get fleeced with these bank scams from nigeria are utterly stupid or greedy .. deserve all they get.
Good old saying ... nobody gives you something for nothing !!

I too have been buying and selling on Ebay for 4 years and am also a powerseller but I still have managed to get my account hacked. Its not just common sense, when people ask you about a item your selling its VERY easy to reply without ticking the 'hide my email address from person asking question', I think ebay should automatically do this really.

But how do you stop people hacking in and changing your advertisement. I thought once people had started bidding you couldnt change the advert.

If somebody has done that to your advert then they must have had access to your account. They must have your password. If you can still access your account then change your password before they do.If you can do this then you can just end your listing. It is quite easy but you will still be liable for any eBay fees incurred but it will be worth it.If you can't access your account then immediately inform eBay and tell them and they will end the listing.Never access your account from an email and give your password.Always go into eBay's Home page and then My Ebay.Hope this helps Debi.

Debi. Just received this spoof email from someone proposing to be representative of eBay.This is just one of many guises the crooks will use. There is nothing wrong with my account. It is still active. If you open the link and look at the top of the page which asks you for your password you will see that it is not secure. It shows http:// not https://. https shows it is a secure page.

Whatever you do do not use the link to enter your password.

I think it would be easier if I just give ebay a wide berth. I think I'll just keep my good old reliable wisp for another season, and try again next year.

All you have to do Debi, is access eBay directly and don't click on links in emails. Genuine emails will be shown in your 'My eBay' message folders. Always reply to them from eBay itself and not from an eBay link in an email.

These scams are not just eBay. People try to get your details from all sorts of sources. Personally, if I don't recognise the sender of an email or it doesn't have any connection with things I know I am dealing with, it gets deleted without opening, and unless I know the sender is genuine I don't open any links either.

Your private email address is personal to you and it is your choice whether or not you respond to any emails sent to you. You're in control of your inbox and you're not going to lose anything by deleting stuff you're not happy with. If an email is that important and the sender doesn't get a reply they will contact you by some other means.
