I am looking to buy a second hand awning and have seen an inaca oasis awning for sale, but the poles have suction pads to connect to the caravan. Just wondered if anyone has advice on this. I only have a porch awning at the moment which has suction pads and I find they move. Are they best avoided these days? Are the type of connectors new awnings have much better?

It often depends on the type of wall your van has. Smooth walls are better than the textured. The suction cups get old and dried out so they lose there grip. On my dorema we have the quick lock - which attach to a small rail sewn into the awning then push against the van when the poles are tentioned. You can screw awning clips for the poles onto the wall but I wouldnt. My satellite dish has suction mounts and stays on fine - if your poles are tentioned well they shouldnt slip - there is a lot more pressure from a full awning than a porch. Maybe shop around, as I say I can recommend Dorema - good price and very nice quality. Good luck.

It is possible to have an "awning-pole rail", usually called a profile, machined into your present awning. Then you just need the hook inserts for the ends of the poles, and the snap-on brackets which attach the poles to the profile.

I had this work done on my Trio awning and have never regretted it.

We have an Inaca Elba .it has the quick fit type fittings they don't budge, I know you can buy them in the dealers, not sure if they would be suitable for your awning but you could check.

it sounds like the old type awning i would go for a more modern awning with the quick lock pads less chance of the poles damaging your van peter
