How could we send them our kind wishes of support when there's no way of getting in touch with them???

I will be sending that message now the site is up and running again.
I do wonder how many of the people criticing the club administer a web site. It is not an easy task and as we are all human mistakes can happen.
I think the club acted quickly and correctly and I don't hold any grudges.

Administering a website and creating it are two very different things. You do not stop hackers by site administration but by putting the time and money into creating it robustly in the first place. Both club sites look to me as if they were written by students as work placement.

Note to everyone that you may be entitled to compensation, they need to let people know what data has been compromised ASAP, at the end of the day, you trust these companies to keep your private data secure, not to open you up to identity fraud

Last update on their website 2 days ago (2/2/24) says that their experts 'suggest' personal data has not been compromised! That's NOT a statement that it hasn't, only an indication that it doesn't appear at this stage to have been stolen. We will see.

The drive to investigate and rectify whatever is wrong is SO URGENT that members are not worthy of being given daily updates if it's a w/e it seems! I think differently, if our personal details have been put at risk, then daily updates, weekend or not, are the least they can do! - but there we are, we're 'only' members, the mighty and precious Club is what really matters in their view!

My understanding is that anyone who is insured via their red pennant insurance or has Mayday cover has had all their details compromised, the club should have written to you.

Their handling of this has been abysmal.

I saw a post on another forum from someone who was notified by some sort of service they use that their email plus a password were found on a list available for purchase online. When they checked the password, the only place where they use that email/password combination is the CAMC so they believe it must have come from the hack. This is just hearsay and you never can tell if stuff people post online is true or not, but it was enough to make me change my CAMC password and check where else I use the same combination. Luckily I only used that combination for a few camping related sites so I have changed the password on them as well to be on the safe side.

The article and the nature of the hacking software used does rather imply that the Club was negligent in some way regarding security of members details!

When you read the details of other organisations that have been hacked by the same method, there always seems to be gaps in security that could and should have been addressed BEFORE being attacked, and perhaps more alarmingly 'insider' assistance involved!

With the Club we can do little more than speculate as they are very tight lipped and even actively discouraging further debate, but what amounts to evidence with other victims, really is not reassuring that the Club is blame free!

Certainly a case of changing passwords and other personal details wherever possible (customised email address etc.) that may have been accessed!
