On one hand we are being told that huge numbers of folks are not holidaying abroad and that camping and caravanning holidays in the UK are booming as folks look for cheaper alternatives for their holidays.
On the other hand, firms like Blacks and many caravan manufacturers and accessory shops are going to the wall or atleast severly cutting back on the number of their outlets.
It is almost as if these firms geared up for a boom in sales that never came.
My theory is they tried selling the IDEA that lots more folks were taking up camping in this country to try to give us (&it) a boost - bit like war-time propaganda. That went well then eh ?
Second theory is some companies (& individuals) are using recession as an excuse for pretty much everything, sometimes untruthfully. Pity the poor folks who are losing their jobs anyway though.
I think the fact that the post was about the gear being flogged of cheap somewhere tells the story. Everyone is looking for a bargain these days. I buy pretty much everything online cos its cheaper.
That said it has been harder to get into campsites this year. probably cos I go to those offering a deal and not the £25 night jobbies
Hell & they say the Scots are mean Steve ! - we always just pick the ones we like the sound of (quiet, small, no bars/big play ares etc) in the areas we want to visit & stump up the dosh.
