A 20 month old girl is seriously ill in hospital after being hit by a people carrier at a Lake District campsite yesterday.
The toddler became trapped underneath the VW Touran, which was being driven by a man from Lincoln, at Lanefoot Campsite at Thornthwaite, near Keswick, at 10am on Sunday 12th May.
Emergency services managed to free the girl after the North West Ambulance Service, Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service and the Great North Air Ambulance raced to the scene.
Medics anaesthetised the youngster before she was flown to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Newcastle in a critical condition.
Cumbria Police later reported her condition to be serious but stable.
An investigation into the incident has been launched. Anyone who may have seen the collision is asked to contact PC2040 Mattinson at Cumbria's roads police department
Poor little mite ! I hope she recovers fully. Just shows the importance of keeping children close on campsites. The poor driver must feel terrible too.
