Police said the accident happened at Maenporth Beach, near Falmouth, on Friday evening.

The man, who was described by police as elderly, became trapped underneath the caravan while attempting to move it between the road and the beach.

Police, ambulance crews, coastguards, and the fire service attended but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Members of the public also offered assistance at the scene.

The coroner has been informed.

Having a real job to visualize how this tragedy could have happened? Can only assume his pitch must have been a seafront one, (NOT being flippant! We go to such a site where seafront pitches are available), and that his feet must have sunk in the sand/sandy grass to make him fall under it in the first place?

But then would a caravan actually be low enough to crush someone I wonder? Once again, trying to imagine this! Suppose if the poor chap was a bit on the large side and his body deeper than the height of the tyres, it could have crushed him that way. A real puzzler and my heart goes out to his family.
