Otters Edge Campground (formerly Shellbay Caravan site) is a family owned facility which has been under new ownership since 2020
We currently offer Camping, Caravan and Campervan (RV) pitches with Electric Hook Ups available, and fresh water on site.
We have a facility block with Showers, Wash Basins, and WC services along with dish washing provision.
Whilst we offer cassette emptying you must NOT use chemicals we only accept organic additives, you may be asked to prove this is what you are using and if you are not able to do so you may be refused.
We are awaiting the introduction of WiFi to the site however the EE network is very good here and we get 4G/5G full signal pretty much all of the time.
Its an exciting time as we add more site upgrades and some new additions to facilities.
The camp ground is situated on the Island Of Benbecula which means its ideally situated for all of the islands that make up our little piece of the Outer Hebrides. We have North Uist and Berneray to the North and South Uist and Eriskay to the South along with a myriad of smaller islands all of which are connected by permanent causeways. Bara, Harris and Lewis are accessible via Ferry from here. And of course the airport is just 5 miles away from us.
The nearby school has a swimming pool and gym, there is also the Dark Island Hotel along the road if you fancy a restaurant meal or a drink in the bar.
Wildlife and birdwatching are huge draws to the islands and when you add that to the fantastic beaches around here, you will have a peaceful but also heart warming holiday. Walks on the beach, a sea trip, fishing, photography, mountains to climb, perhaps cycle the Hebridian way or walk it if your feeling energetic.......theres so much to take in, and so many hours of sunlight in the summer.

Nearby Attractions
We have the Liniclate school just up the road with the Dark Island Hotel just a little further along if youre feeling in the need for a restaurant and perhaps something to warm you up Slainte mhath.
There`s a Co-Op a mile or so heading towards the causeway to South Uist which will have everything you need for your self catering.
To the North in Balivanich there are other shops for food and supplies of all types. In short you`re in the middle of everything you might possibly need.
