Come and immerse yourselves in our beautiful ancient woodland on the North Downs. Allow nature and the magic of the campfire to send you home feeling healthy, energised and relaxed.
We offer rustic, off-grid camping but with hot showers and loos for a few creature comforts. Add bushcraft courses, our own laying hens, local farm shop and acres of woodland to explore and you have an experience you wont forget.
We are on top of the downs in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. As a local wildlife and ancient woodland site, we aim to make as little impact on the woods as possible and Kent Wildlife Trust has just completed our Conservation Management Plan. Anemones; Bats, bluebells, badgers and coppice just to start with...
Our aim is to engage children with nature. Bushcraft courses run every weekend. We also have a nature trail and are developing an orienteering course.
Water is tanked up so please use it sparingly & please bring drinking water (we will have more on site for sale if you need it). Open fires are encouraged and we sell firewood from our managed woodland.
Badgells Wood is a 30 Acre corner of 250acre Whitehorse Wood and part of Birling Estate, which was originally formed as a deer park by William the Conqueror and has been in the Nevill family since 1435.
The site was also once part of a WWII training camp and you can still see the remains of the old hut bases and even a WWI trench system - your children can while away the hours exploring (whilst you relax!)
Nearby Attractions
The wood is on top of the North Downs and you can stroll over to the hilltop parkland to take in the stunning views whilst watching the butterflies enjoying the chalk grassland.
Explore locally on the footpaths or head off on the major national routes - the Weald Way or the North Downs way (part of the Pilgrims Way) which cross in the woods.
There are lots of great local hostelries; the Nevill Bull Pub in Birling - Kate & Paul will give you a warm welcome. The Duke of Wellington in Ryarsh, the Amazon and Tiger in Harvel or the Vigo Inn for some live music or comedy. Go local with Meopham Valley Vineyard and Kent Brewery's great local brews or Harvel Farm Shop for wonderful homegrown meat for your BBQ.
We are one of the nearest campsites to London and very easily accessible.
By Car Badgells Wood is well connected to both the M20 and the M2. We are not far off the A227 between Meopham and Wrotham, near Vigo village. Take the turning onto Harvel Lane (signposed Vigo & Harvel & Trosley Country Park). Follow on for 2.5 miles and you will see the sign for the entrance on your right.
By Train The nearest train stations are Meopham or Borough Green (both 40mins from London Victoria). A little further away is Ebbsfleet International on the high speed line (17mins from Kings Cross St. Pancras.
